KEEPERS
You must have two keepers after each season. They are placed in keeper slot 1 and keeper slot 2. Slot 1 is for your highest fantasy value keeper you have chosen, and slot 2 is for the lower one. After the first season, you can not keep your slot 1 keeper from the previous year. Slot 2 will be bumped to slot 1, no matter who you choose to replace slot 1. You can also dump both keepers and start the process over.
For example,
If I have keepers:
L Tomlinson 201.39
Kevin Barlow 68.75
LT would be in slot 1. After this season, I must release LT to the next year's draft pool and move Barlow to slot one. After the next season, I decide to replace LT with my QB, who was Peyton Manning. Here is the keeper layout going into 2005 for me (values are estimated):
Kevin Barlow 125.75
Peyton Manning 350.25
Even though PM has a higher value than Barlow, he goes in slot 2. This ensures that a team can have a key player for at least two years as a keeper. This establishes team identity in the league.
This also determines your next draft slot! The lower your keeper value, the higher you draft. Keep that in mind when choosing your keepers. To see the current example of draft/keeper settings, here is the list:
http://www.gruenebydesign.com/rotc/2004/2004-draftorder.html
If you would like to trade keepers you can, but be aware that trading a keeper will affect your draft slot.
If you give up a weaker player to get a better player, your slot will move you further down the line.
Use this example from the stats site:
Hitmen has
Marshall Faulk 96.45
Michael Vick 24.41
Phishermen has
L Tomlinson 201.39
Kevin Barlow 68.75
If they trade Vick and Tomlinson:
Hitmen has
Marshall Faulk 96.45
L Tomlinson 201.39
Phishermen has
Kevin Barlow 68.75
Michael Vick 24.41
There new fantasy value totals are:
Hitmen: 297.84
Phishermen: 93.16
That changes their draft positions:
Hitmen from 1 to 8
Phish from 6 to 1
Note that they DO NOT SWAP. The position is a result of the change in total value.
